I want the internet to stop being real life.
I'm not gonna act like I'm the oldest salt on the internet, hell, not even this site, I know that there's folks who've been there from the beginning. The thing I miss and I've seen others talk about is the era where the internet was a place in your house and when you left that room it was gone. I heard someone the other day say that they felt "the connections I've made on the internet feel more real in some ways" and I think I've never heard a more repulsive thing said out loud that the person thought would just be a normal statement. I love parts of the internet. Bear is great cause I can just fucking close it when I'm done and that's it. I like being able to communicate with my friends and organize things without needing to play telephone tag. What I hate is the idea that the internet is just becoming the de facto space where things happen. I want to live in the real world, I want to see people and laugh with them, I'm fucking tired of a world where one of the major forms of communication is sending 20 second video clips to one another. I want this to return to the way it was where this was a funny little novelty where you could talk to people but it would never be the same as a real friendship. I think I'm also just fucking tired of how this place has been crafted to be so vital to every day function, I want to return to a time where I could leave my phone at home and that's just fine.
