My growing opposition to a computer expressing opinions to me
I have figured out that a large portion of the issues that I find myself having with the current state of technology stems from the amount of stuff that a computer (Abominable Intelligence) attempts to decide for me. I think that I'm at a point where any service that attempts to suggest me things outside of the most basic of algorithms to consume is rancid and in its own way, unnatural. I'm verging on just being a Dune-style Orange Catholic, but I miss the days of a person saying "you should check out X" and then checking it out and conversing about how it made you feel.
From here on out I'm trying my damnedest to avoid this type of nonsense, if a system shows me "top posts" with open stats showing WHY that was a "top post", I can live with that just fine, but I shouldn't have to see the slop that wide algorithms have decided is good. I'm done with the slop content, I'm done with stuff made as "content", I'm gonna try and enter a phase of actually consuming, reacting to and thinking about media.
